Description

Contract: Full-time, Independent Contractor Location: Remote — we hire across multiple jurisdictions Hours: US Eastern Time Our Firm Sterlington PLLC is a full-service law firm focusing on complex corporate, litigation, executive compensation, and private wealth matters. As a firm, we focus on the economic as well as the legal aspects of our matters. Among other strengths, Sterlington is the ultimate law firm for founders, senior executives, and UHNWIs as well as their related businesses. We are remote-first, and our support teams work as one global Legal Operations function across multiple time zones. Learn more at www.sterlingtonlaw.com The Opportunity We are looking for a first-class Senior Legal Practice Assistant to provide white glove support service to our firm’s partners and attorneys. By gaining a deep understanding of each partner’s practice, you will support them to execute on client matters, run the administrative engine behind the work, coordinate with stakeholders across the firm, and help ensure our business and our clients’ goals are achieved. We are looking for someone who is curious and practical in using AI and technology to improve day-to-day work, streamline processes and support attorneys more efficiently. This is a broad role for someone who wants more than calendar management. Alongside core executive support, you will work on documents, matter coordination, process and project management. As we scale, we are adding elite talent to this team. What You’ll Do The matter lifecycle, end to end. Opening, staffing, key milestones, status reporting and closing. Records that are accurate and current because you keep them that way, not because someone audits them. Sign-offs, approvals and closing checklists chased to completion rather than reported as outstanding. Partner onboarding. Every workstream for an incoming partner and their team: systems access, conflicts, files, billing setup. Tracked to done. A partner joining Sterlington should experience this as one coordinated process, not as five functions contacting them separately. The cross-functional interface. Routing requests to the right owner, translating between functions, and keeping initiatives moving without executing the specialist work yourself. You need enough literacy in Finance, BD and IT to speak each language credibly. You do not need to do any of their jobs. AI-assisted workflow design. Sterlington is building toward a fully AI-augmented practice. In this role that means designing and running the AI-assisted workflows that sit around the matter lifecycle, and holding the line between what AI produces and what a lawyer reviews. This is not a support expectation bolted onto the role. It is one of the reasons the role exists. The function’s operating data. Keeping matter and capacity data clean enough to be trusted, maintaining the reporting the firm already relies on, and flagging the patterns you can see in it: pressure points, referral opportunities, and where capacity is about to break. Building the firm’s full analytics and knowledge management capability is not in scope for this role, and we will say so plainly rather than write it into a job description and hope. What We're Looking For Experience in project coordination, ideally within a law firm, professional services, or Legal Operations environment Working literacy in the matter lifecycle — how matters open, staff, progress, and close — even if you haven't run one yourself Strong stakeholder management skills; comfortable being the point of contact between a specialist function and the rest of the business Enough functional literacy in Finance, Business Development/Marketing, and IT to coordinate effectively with each — you don't need to do their jobs, but you need to speak their language Strong written communication; able to translate between functions clearly and without losing nuance Comfort with data and dashboards — capacity analytics, cross-referencing, and pattern recognition across matters Experience with practice management, billing, or knowledge management systems, or evidence you've learned a comparable system quickly Excellent organizational skills; able to track multiple workstreams and sign-off chains without dropping detail Non-negotiable: ownership — the instinct to chase an open item to completion rather than wait for someone else to close it Comfortable working to defined service standards and deadlines in a remote, cross-time-zone environment At Sterlington, we believe that world-class talent has no boundaries. We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where unique perspectives are valued and every individual has the opportunity to thrive. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
