Global Business Development & Sales Manager (Ref#067)
Skills
Description
Position Overview You will own a global territory and go after the kind of deals most sales careers never touch: multi-million dollar CapEx machinery for primary aluminum smelters. These are not quick wins. You are stepping into multi-year procurement cycles where trust with plant directors, procurement heads, and chief engineers is built one technical conversation at a time, not one pitch. This job rewards people who can operate alone. There is no office down the hall and no territory manager checking your calendar. You will plan your own travel, set your own priorities, and carry your own pipeline from first contact through a signed contract, often negotiating up to the C-suite along the way. If you already speak the language of potrooms, carbon plants, and casthouses, or you have sold heavy industrial equipment into that world, you already know what this role demands. Bring that knowledge, add the discipline to manage a global patch on your own, and you will find the kind of ownership that is hard to get anywhere else. Key Responsibilities Global CapEx Pipeline Development Identify, qualify, and close high-value machinery sales to primary aluminum smelters across greenfield builds and brownfield retrofits worldwide. Technical Stakeholder Engagement Deliver technical presentations to smelter managers, engineering and technology teams, carbon plant superintendents, potroom superintendents, maintenance engineers, and casthouse operations teams. Align our machinery and technology solutions with their operational priorities: efficiency, safety, and cost. Procurement & Contract Negotiation Manage complex RFPs and global tender processes from first submission through award. Lead commercial and technical negotiations up to the C-suite level. Market Intelligence & Positioning Track global primary aluminum market shifts, LME trends, and upcoming smelting capacity expansions. Use that intelligence to position our technology ahead of competitors before tenders open. Industry Representation Represent the company at major international industry events, including TMS, Aluminium Düsseldorf, and regional smelting conferences. Qualifications Experience 5–7+ years selling heavy industrial machinery, CapEx equipment, or process technology directly to primary aluminum smelters, or a heavy engineering background within a smelter (for example, potroom or casthouse maintenance engineering) with a proven pivot into technology sales. A verifiable track record of meeting or exceeding multi-million dollar annual sales quotas, working solo or managing your own territory. Technical Knowledge Strong working knowledge of primary aluminum reduction technology, including carbon plant operations, anode technology, potline operations, and casthouse equipment. Leadership & Communication Exceptional self-motivation and a demonstrated ability to manage a global pipeline entirely remote from the technology center, including your own travel schedule and budget. Flawless English communication skills. French, Arabic, German, or Spanish are a strong asset given the major smelting hubs you will work across. Work Environment This is a remote role with a global territory and no fixed office base. You will travel internationally 50–60% of the time to visit smelter sites directly, and you are expected to plan and manage that travel yourself. Success here depends on your ability to work independently, stay organized across time zones, and keep a long, multi-year pipeline moving without daily oversight.
