Backend Engineer, Payments

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineer, Payments based in Canada. This role offers the opportunity to build reliable financial infrastructure that supports money movement at global scale. You will design and maintain APIs, services, and distributed systems capable of processing billions of payment-related requests. Working across payments, risk, infrastructure, and product teams, you will help develop solutions that serve both enterprises and growing businesses. The position combines backend engineering, large-scale system design, production problem-solving, and continuous improvement. You will contribute to a highly collaborative engineering environment while maintaining a strong focus on reliability, efficiency, and user experience. The role also provides opportunities to mentor other engineers and influence engineering standards, tooling, and development practices. You will have significant ownership and autonomy while solving complex problems across modern financial technology systems.
